THEDAYTODAY #4

My article today was centred around how millennials are likely to be victims of fraud. I was advised to do less planning and get straight to making, so I wrote a few key words and worked from them alone instead than making a mindmap like I had done in my previous projects this week. In reflection, I think this really helped me to speed up my process and be more creative. Once I started I found myself flowing with ideas and I’m really happy with the outcome.

The key words which stood out to me were ‘personal’ and ‘manic’. This reminded me of a friends story of her mother who tends to spend a lot of money during a manic episode. I was also inspired by a song called ‘Noir Désir’, with the chorus lyrics being ‘C’est la manie’ meaning ‘It’s manic’.

My key word ‘personal’ inspired me to use my hand and fingerprints in my work. I did this by pressing my acrylic covered hands on the paper, as well as using my fingers to paint words instead of using brushes.

As well as using my hands to link to the personal aspect to my work – I decided to draw a portrait of myself from a picture taken during a particularly difficult time in my life. I purposely left the eyes empty to create a more blank and lifeless look.

I then combined all of these ideas. (acrylic+pen)
I’m really enjoying working with a larger scale at the moment, so I decided to create a much larger piece.

I thought that this would be a good opportunity to experiment with performance art as I haven’t tried it out yet. I liked how this brought my ppiece more to life, and stuck with the personal theme. I would like to explore this more in the future.
