2D PROJECT

I started by altering the scale and colour of my work using a photocopier. I worked with my collage work from the week before. I think this was a vital part to the development of my work as I began to stray away from making my work look too similar – allowing me to stretch out the possibilities of development.

Next I cut out parts of the previous work and started to combine these with cardboard as the base or as frames. I loved the look of layering over existing layers, making the piece more unique and detailed.

Combining two collage models faces together. Using cardboard as the base helped to create a stronger and more prominent structure, and stood out more due to its thickness. I think the following pieces are very compositionally interesting. I also love the combination of colours. I think these are my strongest pieces from this project.

WORKING ON THE RESOLVED PIECE

For my resolved piece, I knew I wanted to work with large scale but wasn’t sure on much else. I began with a dark blue background of painted carboard, then layered my screen print in white to create more detail. I then started arranging cut outs from work from throughout the project, using my two models as the main features of the piece. I wanted the surroundings to compliment them, however I feel the final outcome was too messy and scattered to successfully show this.

In the end, I think there is just too much going on. Although it successfully creates an overwhelming atmosphere, I feel that working with empty space would have made my piece a lot stronger. It feels too busy and too obvious as a resolved piece – in the sense that I had just combined all I had been working with in to one final piece, rather than picking out the stronger points throughout development and focusing on them alone. I feel I learned a lot from this project, most importantly being that I need to let the development process naturally happen instead of preplanning.

Resolved piece.
