This week we started a new project with the title ‘We Are Where We Are’ (WAWWA). Although this title is very open which offers the opportunity to be quite broad with initial responses. We were given a few prompts to help get us started, and when I saw the option of incorporating the body, I was pretty certain of the direction I wanted to start my work in.
Going with the title, I wanted to use old pictures of myself along with me now. I have been dealing with a lot of self confidence issues lately, and thought I could use this to fuel my art (although I’m aware this can be dangerous sometimes).
I however decided against this after taking photos of myself behind a projection of my old self. It made me feel unattractive and I no longer wanted to carry on, so started projecting these photographs on the wall away from myself. When playing around with the projector settings, I had it placed over my flatmate doing Uni work. I was interested in the idea of the previous memories we had before Covid, in juxtaposition with my flatmate doing online Uni work.
I went with this idea, using old photographs and videos from parties and gatherings projected around my new home.
I then started to play around with editing on Photoshop. I altered the saturation to highlight the old memories in colour vs covid in a more dark setting.
Next I began to branch out a bit more with my editing using Photoshop and the app Hyperspektiv to mimic a glitch as a nod to our reliance on technology throughout the past few months.
