WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A WOMAN – FIRST DEVELOPMENTS

The past days have been filled with creating work directly inspired by the work included in my MURAL board. Bellow is a slideshow of some of the images which I worked from (Artist include; Jason Balducci, Ines J, and Ellen Levine Dodd), followed by my own work:

As you can see, I was greatly inspired by the artists use of colour, shape, text and lines. For some, I wanted to directly copy some aspects of the artists work to try out different methods. I did also use some of my own text, inspired by the sounds around me – for example, conversations and lyrics from whatever music was playing in the background.

I felt I was being too focused and consciously making decisions, considering that I want this work to appear more ‘accidental’ and in the moment. Furthermore, I think drawing and choosing the media with my eyes closed could help my work feel more unplanned and spontaneous. Additionally, I would like to limit my time when creating to avoid overthinking my next step, as well as using acrylic paint in terms of media.

This is an exert from my notebook with my evaluation of work completed today, including questions/observations that came up while creating. I find this beneficial as it allows me to avoid repeating the same mistakes, as well as giving me more ideas of what I could do in the future if any ideas or realisations occur.
