WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A WOMAN – DEVELOPMENT

Following my last post, I carried on with a similar process as before – using the same materials and surface to create work. However, I tried out two new techniques: drawing with my eyes closed, and timing myself.

I found out that creating this work while time restricted felt a lot more difficult than I expected it to. There was a sense of panic and pressure when coming up with visual elements to use in my work, which left each piece very limited in terms of subject matter. I did however prefer working with my eyes closed as it allowed me to be more free creatively as I wasn’t concerned if the colours complimented each other or if the spacing felt right etc. The only potential risk was using acrylic paint because, as seen below, it covered over most of my drawings – although I do like the texture and mystery of it hiding the emotions drawn underneath. I was surprised how much I liked how they came out, and would like to experiment with this further in the project.
