2D PRACTICE – COLLAGE

The final week of 2D practice was focused on collage. To begin, I was to make a collage piece only using magazine cutouts. At first I found this tricky, and felt slightly uninspired and somewhat limited. To help with this, I was advised to look at famous collage artists which I felt helped immensely. I realised I didn’t have to find exact pictures relating to my theme, but that I could make it myself by altering shapes/objects by cutting and placing them differently to how they were originally presented.

This is my first collage piece made on this week. My main focus was on pattern and tone. I wanted to mix colour with black and white cutouts so it linked to my previous work. I used the picture of the woman as I think her expression is particularly interesting – as if she is wary or scared of what is behind her.

After looking at artists work, I realised that I didn’t have to fill the page – and that using space could be just as (or even more) affective.

Experimenting with framing by creating a border for my work.

I worried my work was looking all too similar, and needed some help with how to develop my work further. I decided to use the photocopier to alter the colour of my collage pieces. The following are the outcomes.
