This week, we were expected to produce a minimum of 20 explorative development in 2D and 3D form. To start off, we had a 1 to 1 meeting to look at work completed so far, and to discuss further possibilities of development. Although I felt slightly overwhelmed reading the brief plan for this week, I found this meeting helped me to find ideas of what my next steps could be, as well as artists to look at for inspiration.
EXPERIMENTATION DAY ONE
This day was probably my most productive throughout the week. As I had so many ideas to stem off of, I used a range of materials including wire, string, tape, pen, charcoal. I also created some work inspired by artist Karla Black using tissue paper and experimenting with installation and presentation – using the string to hang pieces around my home. I originally thought this could be useful for finding shadows, however I began to become more focused on the weightlessness of my work hanging. I definitely would like to experiment more with the illusion of weight in the future.
There were a few experiments using tissue paper that I wasn’t so happy with, however. I had wet the tissue paper as I thought it would seem more interesting weight wise, having something dragging it down, but really, it just looked like soggy, dirty tissue paper.. I did however enjoy watching the water drip from the paper, and would maybe work with this in video form sometime.
EXPERIMENTATION DAY TWO
I created some of my favourite work on this day. I tried to be more free with my approach.
As my original location inspiring this work was at the beach, I used wooden pegs in replacement of the planks I had found at the beach. I joined them together using string and drew this mini sculpture from four different perspectives. I like that the four drawings look like frames of an animation.
Texture is also something I find important in my work, so I used a piece of carboard to find three separate surfaces to work on top of, using the same drawing. I also used a rock as my painting tool as a way of trying out untraditional methods of working. Along with this idea, I made my own paint using crushed up rock and water.
EXPERIMENTATION DAY THREE
I found myself feeling somewhat lost by this point and was worried of making work without a direction. After a video call with classmates, I decided to focus on the hanging tissue paper by projecting my original inspiration photographs/drawings onto it. I loved the overlapping shapes and how the rips and crinkles in the paper made the picture slightly distorted.

This video link above shows me drawing on top of the tissue paper of the projected lines.
Here is the result of the video, as well as some drawings of the projection pictures from above;
